What happens at the first visit?

When a patient visits our practice for the first time, a comprehensive evaluation is completed. We examine the teeth, jaws and gums, take measurements and discuss the need for orthodontic treatment. Diagnostic records are taken including digital photographs of the teeth and face and if required, models of the teeth. We will also request special x-rays of the jaws and teeth. Our recommendations will be explained by both the Orthodontist and our friendly Treatment Co-ordinators including:

  1. Treatment options
  2. Treatment time
  3. Beginning treatment
  4. What type of braces are appropriate
  5. Investment required
  6. Financial arrangements

Cost of Treatment

The cost of treatment depends on the patient's problem, treatment time and type of braces used. You will be able to discuss fees and payment options before treatment begins. We have a number of payment plans to suit different budgets. We work hard to make orthodontics affordable. Cash, cheque, EFTPOS, Visa and MasterCard are all accepted. Cheques should be made payable to Lavrin & Lawrence Orthodontics Pty Ltd.

Dental Insurance

Health Funds offer some rebate on orthodontic treatment. You should check with your insurer to obtain the current level of rebates, premiums and eligibility. All accounts will include the relevant procedure item number in order that claims can be made.

Tax

Currently tax rebates are available for dental, medical, pharmacy and physiotherapy bills. You should check with your accountant if you are able to claim on your tax return.

Scheduling Appointments

Most people seeking orthodontic treatment have important obligations during the day, whether for work or school. During active orthodontic treatment our patients are seen approximately every 6 to 8 weeks and some of these appointments may conflict with work or school schedules. The aim of our scheduling system is to see you on time for your appointment, and during each appointment have plenty of time to do the necessary treatment, to give you information about your treatment and to answer any questions. We also want to work with you around your school and work commitments as much as possible.

We therefore schedule longer appointments (such as banding and bonding and initial consultations) during school or work hours, and shorter appointments (progress adjustments and checks) before and after school.

By doing this, we do not reserve an entire afternoon for one or two patients but rather accommodate as many patients as possible for after-school appointments. If you prefer to be seen during a quieter time, please schedule an appointment during school/work hours.

OOPS! RESCHEDULING APPOINTMENTS & LATE ARRIVALS

In spite of our complimentary EMAIL reminder service, we realize that once in a while unforeseen circumstances arise which necessitate a change in appointment or cause you to overlook your appointment. We will do our best to reschedule your appointment as soon as possible so progress is not lost.

If you find yourself behind schedule or arrive late, in fairness to other patients we may find it necessary to reschedule your appointment. Your understanding is appreciated.

We also request that you let us know at least 24 hours ahead of a cancellation or change of appointment to avoid a cancellation fee.
